Halloween Coloring Contest

Everyone at the shop is such a HUGE fan of Halloween.  We had looked forward to doing something really fun for the kids in town at the shop this year.  Unfortunately, in person trick-or-treat seems highly unlikely in 2020 (for good reason!).  We still want to celebrate and we still want to do something really cool for our community.  So,  we decided to have a HALLOWEEN COLORING CONTEST!

Anyone can download and color our Halloween Coloring Page designed by Sara "Scare-a" Kenville.  The random drawing for a fun prize package and gift card redeemable for some delicious local treats is open to all local kids under 18 in the Stanwood-Camano area. To enter, you just have to share your child's finished coloring page with us by snapping a picture, uploading and tagging one of our pages on social media (make sure your post is public so that we can see it!*).  Please include first name/age as well.  We will also share your entries on our shop's social media pages!

The True Story of the Ray Romano Death Threat Tattoo!

It's time to learn the true story of this famous tattoo as told by the artist himself, Gary van de Wouw aka Gary Loco!  The next time you see one of those lists of "WTF?!" Tattoos", pass on the real story and give some credit to the guy who made it happen!

Tattoo by Gary van de Wouw aka Gary Loco

"So somehow, 15+ years after doing the “infamous” Ray Romano tattoo, this tattoo just keeps following me around and yet nobody has an inkling (pun intended) about the fact who it was who did it and thus, in all the years that this tattoo been shared over and over again on multitudes of blogs and websites, I never once got credited for it.

Whether or not this is a good thing I’ll leave up for discussion.

The story told about this tattoo has never been correct.

The one told here is probably the closest to what actually happened.

The tattoo was originally done in Toronto at Lucky 13 Tattoos, downtown on Bloor street.

It was originally shared on my BMEzine account by myself and then got reblogged by the late owner Of this influential body modification community, Shannon Laratt.

This is why and when this tattoo became one of the earlier viral “regrettable” tattoos on the internet around 2004 or 2005.

In 2008 it was published in the book “No Regrets; the worst, & most #$%*ing ridiculous tattoos ever” by Aviva Yael & P.M Chen with foreword by David Cross on pg. 62, with my permission. It was credited to my “tattoo name” Gary Loco @ Loco Tattoos, which was my then shop in Hamilton, Ontario at the time this book was published.

Anyway.. the story ;

I had met the girl in question on the subway some weeks prior.

She came visit me at the shop sometime after having a drunk night with a friend where they were coming up with the stupidest tattoo ideas they could think of.

She came in on a dare to get the tattoo done.

No, she was not drunk at the time.

Yes, I initially did refuse to do it even though I thought it the funniest thing.

Yes, I did tell her to think about this for a bit and come back if she really wanted it done.

Yes, she did return within the next few days(Still sober) and,

Yes, I then did the tattoo.

No, she did not get it for free. Moneys were exchanged. Nothing else.

The simple bold “Coptic” I think, font was chosen on purpose by her.

So there’s the real story.

Spread it!

I am still tattooing these days from a small town a bit north of Seattle, WA called Stanwood At the Stanwood Tattoo Company. "

This hangs in the hallway of Stanwood Tattoo Company, so that anyone who enters the shop knows they're about to experience a brush with greatness.

FAQ

You can call, e-mail or message the shop on social media for any questions or concerns that you might have.  However, we have compiled a list of frequently asked questions for clients.  Check here first because we may have already answered your question!:

Do you do walk-ins?

Our normal answer would be:

*We do walk-ins on a first come, first serve basis.  However, we generally encourage potential clients to come in and talk to an artist about your tattoo and make an appointment.  This way, you can make sure that time is reserved just for you and your tattoo.  While we do require a deposit for appointments, there is no fee for potential clients who just want to stop by and get information and ask a few questions.

Unfortunately, we are in the midst of a global viral pandemic and the shop is strictly appointment only until further notice.  You can call the shop to see if an artist has time for you that day, but it's likely that they will not and you'll have to make an appointment and get on the schedule.

What are your rates?

Stanwood Tattoo Company has a shop minimum of $100 and a standard rate of $150 an hour.  We require a $50 deposit that does go toward the final cost of your tattoo in order to secure your appointment.

Where are you located?

We are located at 10003 270th St NW Suite A in Stanwood, on the brick road!

How do I book an appointment?

All artists at Stanwood Tattoo Company book their own appointments.  You can stop in to the shop to pay a deposit and book an appointment, or you can call us at 360-939-2223 or you can e-mail the artist you want to work with!

Do you do piercings?

We do not currently offer piercing services at Stanwood Tattoo Company, but we do sell replacement piercing jewelry.  Tattooing and piercing are two very different skill sets, requiring different training and licensing.   At this time, we are focusing on tattooing and tattoo art.  We may expand in the future and include piercing in the services that we offer.

Can you tattoo minors with parental permission?

All tattoo clients MUST be over the age of 18. Tattooing minors is both highly unethical and against the law.  Please come back to us when you are 18 and we'd be happy to have you as a client!

Can you tattoo hate symbols such as but not limited to swastikas, confederate flags, etc.?

No.  Stanwood Tattoo Company will absolutely NOT tattoo any racist, ableist, homophobic, transphobic or otherwise bigoted speech or symbols on anyone at any time.

Scheduling Appointments!

All tattooers at Stanwood Tattoo Company schedule and set their own appointments.  Portfolios for each artist are available on our website.  You can also check out their individual albums on our Facebook page and see their latest work on our Instagram!  When our lobby is open, each artist also has a portfolio for potential clients to view at the shop as well.

To schedule an appointment, you should contact the artist that you want to work with directly.  The easiest way to do that is via their e-mail or to call the shop during our normal business hours.  Please note that every artist works different days and hours at the shop and can only answer or return calls when they are here.

To call: 360-939-2223.

Our normal business hours are Mondays and Tuesdays by appointment and Wednesday-Sunday: noon until 8 pm.

To e-mail an artist:

Sara:      sara@stanwoodtattoo.com

Gary:    garyloco@stanwoodtattoo.com

Neil:      neil@stanwoodtattoo.com

In order to secure an appointment, we do require a non-refundable deposit that will be applied to your tattoo.  The artist that you are working with will either ask you to come to the shop to pay the deposit or we can also invoice you online for deposit fees as well.  Our shop minimum is $60 and hourly rates are $150.  The artist you are working with can give you an estimate* before your appointment and go over expectations and answer any questions you may have about getting your tattoo.

*Estimated price is not a final quote. Changes & additional requests made by client in size, color, details, etc, may result in additional work, hours, resources and equipment and can change the price of your tattoo.

WE ARE REOPENING!

We are so excited to confirm that Phase 2 of the COVID-19 Recovery Plan for Washington state was officially approved for Snohomish County!

We are so eager to open up again!  As of  Monday, June 8th, we will be open on a MODIFIED schedule by appointment only.  Our artists are coming back to work on a staggered schedule, as some of them need more time to arrange their other personal and professional commitments in the safest way possible. We are still in the midst of a global viral pandemic and we are taking the necessary precautions to make our opening  safe for YOU and for our staff and their families.

Please be patient with us, and remember this is a new experience for all of us!  Your artist WILL contact you as soon as possible about rescheduling.  All deposits are good and will transfer to your new appointment.  All of our artists were booked in advance and will be getting to each person based on the order in which they were previously scheduled.

Neil will be tattooing starting next week (June 8).  Sara and Gary will be coming back to the shop in mid June.  They will contact you as soon as possible for any outstanding appointments.  They are doing the best they can, so remember to show them some grace in the next few weeks as we all get back to our new "normal" here at Stanwood Tattoo Company.

Please also read our post here about new protocols for appointments during Phase 2.

Thank you Stanwood & Camano Island!  We are thrilled to be back!!!!!

If you have any questions, contact the shop at info@stanwoodtattoo.com

Phase 2!

Tattoo shops are officially a part of Phase 2 of the reopening of Washington state!  We are incredibly excited to get back to work, but we want to do it safely for everyone!  We are still not sure when Phase 2 will start for Snohomish County, but are closely following all updates from Governor Inslee on how to proceed.

This also means that there will be some changes in how we do appointments and walk ins, at least for the foreseeable future.

When we reopen, we will be appointment only.  We will also reschedule all existing appointments as a priority as soon as we are able and have a definitive start date.

When you come to your appointment, we ask that you come alone.

We are requiring that all crew members AND clients wear masks as well.  We can provide masks if you don't have one.  Just let us know and we'll take care of you!  We also ask that when you enter the shop, that you immediately wash your hands following CDC guidelines or use a hand sanitizer before your appointment starts.

All of our artists and crew will be taking COVID-19 Prevention and Management Training as well. Tattooers are well trained in PPE, BBP and sterilization techniques already, but we are committed to making the health and safety of everyone in our shop a top priority.

Tattoo industry standards already make tattoo shops one of the safest and most sterile types of small business around. But we will be working even harder, creating new protocols for cleanliness and sterilization in all areas of our shop that will ensure everyone's safety.

To cut down on face to face interactions, we will now be doing an online consultation process.  We will send you a detailed form to fill out when you request an appointment and once you and your artist are clear on expectations, they can set your appointment then.

Please be patient with our artists.  We will be spending a lot of time catching up on cancelled appointments, as some artists were booked months in advance.  In addition to that, we cannot expect them to work overtime when we are still in the middle of a global viral pandemic.  Be prepared for reduced hours of availability!

As we will not be taking walk ins until further notice, doors to the shop will be locked even when we are technically open.

If you're arriving for a scheduled appointment, just give us a call (360-939-2223) so that a crew member can let you in.

We want to tattoo you!  We are beyond excited to get back to work, but we will do it safely, ethically and where the health and safety of our clients, our crew and community is our top priority.

We are already working hard and have created our COVID-19 Recovery Plan and will update and share information with you as new guidelines are created and shared with industry providers.

Thank you all for supporting the shop during this uncertain time.  We hope to be a part of the Stanwood-Camano community for a long time and we will get through this together!
